My cat ate dry noodles coated in onion and garlic powder, will he get sick?

a (human) snack of onion and garlic powder covered dry noodles was left up on a shelf and upon returning home, it was discovered that the cat had knocked it down and may have eaten some. how much would it take to make him sick? how long would it take? what would his symptoms be?

any information would be greatly appreciated. My cat ate dry noodles coated in onion and garlic powder, will he get sick?
Onions are toxic to cats.

Onions contain a substance (N-propyl disulphide) which destroys red blood cells in the cat, causing a form of anemia called Heinz body anemia.

The use of garlic, as well as onions, shallots, and chives, has been shown to cause damage to feline red blood cells which can result in hemolytic anemia and eventual death. Raw garlic and onions can also cause ulcers and irritation of the mouth, esophagus and stomach.

You may want to take him straight to the vet.My cat ate dry noodles coated in onion and garlic powder, will he get sick?
If your cat just ate a little bit, he'll probably be okay, but you might want to call your vet and ask what he'd recommend....just to be on the safe side. The main problem with animals eating garlic and onions is a thing called hemolytic anemia...which means the red blood cells are destroyed faster then they can be created. Some symptoms include: fever, weakness, clumsiness, paleness or yellowing of the skin, eyes or gums, increased heart rate, etc. Symptoms don't usually come on right away...they are gradual and appear over time, Hemolytic anemia can be a temporary condition or it can be chronic/long-term.

Here are a couple websites that have more info:

Cut out an article in family circle magazine about six foods in your kitchen that can make your dog or cat sick and posted it on my fridge. They are as follows:

Call your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at

1-888-426-4435.

Know the pets breed, age, weight, sex, symptoms, what he ate, and how much you think or know he consumed.

If you pet has difficulty breathing, a seizure, or loses consciousness take him to a pet hospital immediately.

Dont know if you can still locate this article because I have had it for a while and I dont know the date of the article. You can visit www.familycircle.com.
probably if it was just a lick or one or two depending on how big they are and how much onion and garlic is on them he may be fine. but if I were you I would call the vet and explain the situation to them and see what they say.
Onion destroys the kidneys, and that damage doesn't reverse itself and heal. The more he eats of it, the more damage he's going to have internally. Onion powder, onion soup, raw onions--all are extremely dangerous.
call the vet, they will know.

i have heard that even giving a cat one serving of gravy, with onion, will kill it.
He must like sushi then to. Try to give it to cat and see what he says. :)
it will kill him
