My cat ate dry noodles coated in onion and garlic powder, will he get sick?

a (human) snack of onion and garlic powder covered dry noodles was left up on a shelf and upon returning home, it was discovered that the cat had knocked it down and may have eaten some. how much would it take to make him sick? how long would it take? what would his symptoms be?

any information would be greatly appreciated. My cat ate dry noodles coated in onion and garlic powder, will he get sick?
Onions are toxic to cats.

Onions contain a substance (N-propyl disulphide) which destroys red blood cells in the cat, causing a form of anemia called Heinz body anemia.

The use of garlic, as well as onions, shallots, and chives, has been shown to cause damage to feline red blood cells which can result in hemolytic anemia and eventual death. Raw garlic and onions can also cause ulcers and irritation of the mouth, esophagus and stomach.

You may want to take him straight to the vet.My cat ate dry noodles coated in onion and garlic powder, will he get sick?
If your cat just ate a little bit, he'll probably be okay, but you might want to call your vet and ask what he'd recommend....just to be on the safe side. The main problem with animals eating garlic and onions is a thing called hemolytic anemia...which means the red blood cells are destroyed faster then they can be created. Some symptoms include: fever, weakness, clumsiness, paleness or yellowing of the skin, eyes or gums, increased heart rate, etc. Symptoms don't usually come on right away...they are gradual and appear over time, Hemolytic anemia can be a temporary condition or it can be chronic/long-term.

Here are a couple websites that have more info:

Cut out an article in family circle magazine about six foods in your kitchen that can make your dog or cat sick and posted it on my fridge. They are as follows:

Onions: Hazardous to dogs and cats

3.5 oz. minced or uncooked to cause a reaction in a 25 lb dog.

Effects: Blood in urine, weakness, rapid breathing, fast heart rate. Serious threat to a pet.

Chocolate: as little as 2 oz. can cause a problem in 10 lb. dog

Effects: diarrhea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat or muscle trembling.

Salt: Hazardous to dogs and cats.

1 tsp. can cause a problem in a 10 lb. dog

Effects: Tremors and seizures. May cause death

Raisins/Grapes: Hazardous to dogs

1/2 ounce of raisins or handful of grapes

Effects: Stomach upset and vomiting. May lead to kidney failure and death.

Gum or candy containing Xylitol: Hazardous to dogs

A few pieces could be dangerous.

Effects: Weakness, seizures, liver failure, and sometimes death.

Moldy or spoiled foods: Hazardous to dogs and cats

Mouthful of old cheese can cause illness.

Effects: Vomiting, tremors and seizures. Can be fatal in large amounts.

Call your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at

1-888-426-4435.

Know the pets breed, age, weight, sex, symptoms, what he ate, and how much you think or know he consumed.

If you pet has difficulty breathing, a seizure, or loses consciousness take him to a pet hospital immediately.

Dont know if you can still locate this article because I have had it for a while and I dont know the date of the article. You can visit www.familycircle.com.
probably if it was just a lick or one or two depending on how big they are and how much onion and garlic is on them he may be fine. but if I were you I would call the vet and explain the situation to them and see what they say.
Onion destroys the kidneys, and that damage doesn't reverse itself and heal. The more he eats of it, the more damage he's going to have internally. Onion powder, onion soup, raw onions--all are extremely dangerous.
call the vet, they will know.

i have heard that even giving a cat one serving of gravy, with onion, will kill it.
He must like sushi then to. Try to give it to cat and see what he says. :)
it will kill him

Can anyone tell me where to buy four paws magic coat dry shampoo powder cats and kittens in the UK please?

Hello Everyone, this is driving me crazy! I'm looking for a brilliant dry shampoo for my persian kitten. The only dry shampoo available is Johnsons Coat Care dry shampoo in the UK and I cannot for the life of me find any US website that will post to the UK

My 3 months old persian kitty doesnt like wipes, it doesn't like baths and I don't want to keep washing him because I believe it gives him an excuse not to clean himself. Cats are generally clean animals but my kitty struggles with it and I want him to be in tip top shape. I know some cats don't need bathing my older cat is immaculate. But, my kitten needs the extra grooming and I want to make a good job of it. And want to be cautious with products I use on him too. I hope Dry Shampoo is safe. I have not heard otherwise unless you have.

I clean areas he cannot reach normally, I brush him every day, and I check his eyes etc. But because he has a long coat it becomes matted and singled out if I don't 'fluff' and brush him! I have been told Dry Shampoo is good for this sort of coat as it not only stimulates but it conditions him. He loves it, makes him all fluffy and clean.

I want to buy Four Paws Magic Coat Dry Shampoo Powder for Cats and Kittens. I believe its a US product. But can I find it? NOPE! LOL

If anyone knows of a premium or better Dry Shampoo product for kittens please please please! I'd love more info and any feedback with links would be greatly appreciated. My little one will thank you as mummy wants to make him look and feel great and that can only be done with good advice given from experienced people like yourselves!

THANK YOU! xxCan anyone tell me where to buy four paws magic coat dry shampoo powder cats and kittens in the UK please?

If my kitten licks her coat while she has flea powder on her will it hurt her?

Flea powders are safe if you use one suitable for cats, and for the age of your particular kitten (read the label) and follow the instructions. They will normally tell you to use a moist cloth to rub over the kitten's body in the direction of the hair once you've applied the powder, taking off the powder sitting on the surface of the fur, minimizing the amount she ingests while licking herself. If my kitten licks her coat while she has flea powder on her will it hurt her?
why would you use an over the counter flea powder on a kitten?

i highly suggest FRONTLINE PLUS for cats, as a monthly preventative. If my kitten licks her coat while she has flea powder on her will it hurt her?
My vet said to bathe my 5 week old kitten with Dawn dishwashing liquid for fleas. Study up on kitten bathing before doing so though. I also adopted a 4 week old kitten from the shelter and they put a little Advantage on her. Let the vet do any putting stuff on the kitten as she will know the proper doseage for the kitten's weight and what is safe to put on. The WalMart stuff is a waste of money anyway, it doesn't work.
It might do, some flea powders are pretty harmful. I mainly concerned that you're using a powder at all really - they're outdated methods of flea control because they don't work well and are very often harmful. I've seen both cats and dogs come in with seizures and other bad reactions to store-bought treatment.

Do your cat a favour and wash this crap off. Treat it with something from a vets - yeah it's more expensive, because it works! You can get plenty of treatment from a vets that is perfectly safe for a young kitten, even if they lick it.

Cookies made of nuts coated in powdered sugar?

During Christmas, I ate these delicious little powdered sugar-coated cookies. They are a light brown or tan color and look almost like knot cookies. My friend told me they are made primarily of grinded up nuts? I need the name of these cookies! Does anyone know ?Cookies made of nuts coated in powdered sugar?
SWEDISH PECAN BALLS

1 c. finely ground pecans

2 tbsp. sugar

1/2 c. butter

1 c. flour

1 tsp. vanilla

1/8 tsp. salt

Powdered sugar

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Shape dough into walnut size balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and bake at 275 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until light brown in color. Roll in powdered sugar while hot. Cool. Roll in powdered sugar again. Yield: 3 dozen.Cookies made of nuts coated in powdered sugar?
It depends on what kind of nuts were used. Those listed above are made with mostly walnuts or pecans, or cookies called amaretti are made with ground almonds. All of them are delicious!
Pecan Balls, Mexican Wedding Cookies, Russian Tea Cakes - different names for the same things. Here's the recipe I like -

  • Are gel nails truly gel based? Salons say they're a finer grain acryclic powder coated with UV gel cover.?

I've been going to two different salons near me and they both say that gel nails are based on a finer grain powder, but it's suspicious when they pull out white containers with ';gel'; handwritten on them. Could be to easily identify them from the other acrylic containers, but I've found postings at online nail care communities that say gel nails start with a gel liquid base, and other postings that say they are another type of acrylic. Which is it? Am I paying more for acrylics? I had them removed just yesterday, trying to go back to normal, but love the look of very short, manicured french gel nails. Are gel nails truly gel based? Salons say they're a finer grain acryclic powder coated with UV gel cover.?
I have gel nails and from what I understand and have been told, gel nails are just a healthier branch of acrylic with a UV gel polishing over them. They are supposed to be thinner so the your nails can ';breathe'; better. They are also shinier. Everywhere I go, gel nails are more expensive so I doubt you will pay more for acrylic! But I agree, its so hard to go back natural once you've had the cute french manicured gel nails!

Will rattle can paint adhere to non-glossy powder coated surfaces?

I bought a black powder coated bed that I would like to paint with antique white rattle can spray paint and then distress it with sand paper and leather to allow some of the black to show through. The powder coated surface is not glossy at all and, in fact, has a very slight amount of texture to it, kind of like 300 grit sand paper (only it doesn't quite have the same feel as sand paper) Should I sand the black powder coat down at all or should I just clean the surface and cover? Will there be any adhesion issues? Will rattle can paint adhere to non-glossy powder coated surfaces?
Clean the surface and use a primer. If there is any question about paint adhering well, use a primer. That will take and hold your finish coat.

For powder-coated surfaces, lightly sand with 100 to 180 grit sandpaper to allow the primer to grip, them prime and then paint.

Will rattle can paint adhere to non-glossy powder coated surfaces?
Paint adheres well to powder coat. But Spray paind doesn't cure well, and can remain sticky forever. I'd buy a quality paint and rent a spray gun for longer lasting results.
powder coating is like a plastic coating, so get some krylon brand

spray paint, for plastic wipe the frame down with TSP

    let dry paint it

What can you do to protect powder-coated steel patio furniture from rusting?

We bought patio furniture a while back, and it's made of all aluminum, which is great bc after several years, there's not a spot of rust. We love it. We got the gazebo that went w/it, but it was bamboo, and after several rainy/humid summers, it disintegrated.

Now, we found another gazebo that matches our chairs, but it's made from ';powder-coated rust-resistant steel.'; We know this stuff will likely still rust, even though it's ';resistant'; to it, because we've seen it happen w/neighbor's/family's stuff etc.

Is there anything you can do to it to prevent it from rusting? We hate to spend the $ on something that's going to rust out in 2-3 years.

Any opinions of that Rustoleum stuff? My inlaws used it but their patio furniture still rusted apart. I don't know what to do. Is there some kind of oil protectant or something to rub on it periodically? Any experience with powder-coated steel patio furniture?

Any ideas would be great, thanks! What can you do to protect powder-coated steel patio furniture from rusting?
apply RustSeal a non porous rust preventive coating, a popular product used by auto restorers but stops rust anywhere. What can you do to protect powder-coated steel patio furniture from rusting?
i don't know if this will help, but if you can get hold of Plastikote clear spray,it will put a durable long lasting layer of colourless plastic over the aluminium.this should in theory preserve the metal for longer.if you can get hold of it,ask the shop staff first if it's suitable although I'm pretty sure it is.

Any input would be awesome. Thanks!Should I powder coat my 09 tt's wheels? (Pics included)?
First off, Brilliant red is an awesome color!..

My color is Ocean Blue Pearl Effect..

    *,..,*

There are many different color combinations that look good, with red + black being one of them...

What I say is that you research all of your body styling and wheel mods before you commit to doing anything with your factory wheels. I am into the A4/B7 and specifically bought last year because it was the end of production for that particular model. My friends and I have tricked out our rides with various choices, with mine being Stasis engine mods and an Oettinger body kit.

I ordered my ride straight from the factory and when it came time addressing my wheels, I decided not to touch my factory wheels. Right now the are hanging in my garage just for show.

(look at some of the wheel and body kits starting on page 96)

Overall, all of your ideas sound pretty good, I am sure all of them will look hot! On the brake caliper though, buy ones that are color red already, don't paint the ones you have. Trust me, it will be better.

Good luck!Should I powder coat my 09 tt's wheels? (Pics included)?
you are so lucky to get a car like that as a gift it looks like ( given from the ribbon).

yes what would look very nice would be to paint your rims black or powder coat them black and then you should paint your brake calipers red then it would look frekin awsome.
black rims would look fantastic with the red car, my husband had a red GSR and he got his rims done black, it was beautiful. so go for it. and ya the brake caliper idea is nice too. get a good contrast going. =] good luck!!
Yeah. my dads friend has powder coated blacks on his s4 they end up looking awesome!! You should definitly do it.
Nice ride, congrats. Yea black wheels would really compliment the brilliant red.
Nice ride, and yeah, the blacks would look good. Good luck.
Black everything out. Do the wheels, tint the tail lights, and black out the crome trim, it looks pretty sick. Red emblems on the wheels would be a nice detail, not really pro pinstripe. If you end up wanting to do you calipers they do make a brake paint that you can do yourself. I would suggest doing it soon, if there is any rust on the caliper the paint will eventually peel. They also make stickers for the calipers, you can get them pretty cheap, some say audi while others are just rings.

And most importantly get some clear cornered headlights, cars looks so much better without that orange blinker.

  • Duplicolor Paint or Powder coat?

Whats the main difference between these two? i want my stock rims black but i cant really afford to powder coat my rims. it seems like duplicolor paint is a great alternative. i plan on sanding off the current finish on the rims, applying primer, three coats of black satin duplicolor paint, and adding a clear coat to finish it all off. This seems like it would be pretty durable. Would it really last? Would it be a cheaper alternative to powder coating that actually works? I just want to make sure because a mistake could be very costly.Duplicolor Paint or Powder coat?

Removing clear coat from powder coated bike?

i have a bicycle frame that i had powder coated, then after that i sprayed some rattle can clear coat on top of it. It's been some time now and the clear coat doesn't seem like it was such a good idea anymore.

I'm curious how i can remove the clear coat without hurting the paint that's underneath it. I have some Jasco paint thinner handy and i was thinking of putting it on ASSUMING the paint thinner will not be strong enough to mess up the powder coating (and applying only for a short time) and will remove the clear coat.

Is this a good idea or are there better ways out there?Removing clear coat from powder coated bike?
Good idea. Slowly and gently. Check clear coat can for info on solvant to clean up overspray.Removing clear coat from powder coated bike?

    Powder-coated cages?

I'm looking in to buying a cage from Martins'. I was planning on getting The Rat Skyscraper (R-695) in powder coated. The cages are available in either galvanized or powder coated, but I have read that galvanized isn't a wise choice. I'm not sure about the whole ordeal with the powder coated, though. Is the cage dipped in powder? Will the powder come off on your hands/when you wash the cage? Or is the powder hardened and then glossed over, ensuring that you can wash it with soap and water?

I was just a little confused on how you would go about washing this cage, if the powder is loose or not.

    http://www.martinscages.com/products/cag鈥?/a>

    Thanks in advance!Powder-coated cages?
I have both powder-coated and galvanized cages. The powder coated cages are the safer of the two types because bare galvanized wire contains zinc and if you have rats that chew the bars of their cage they're getting a zinc overdose which can cause health problems.

Galvanized floors end up stained with a white, funky-smelling, residue, which won't come off. This residue builds up in the corners of the cage where the rats choose to pee and poop. This problem is easily resolved with the use of a litter box and litter training for the rats.

Powder coated cages are beautiful to look at, clean-looking, perfect, cages that don't pose any of the problems that galvanized cages do. BUT, if you have rats that chew the bars, they will eventually chew the powder coating off and it's very expensive to get the cage repaired..

The neat thing about Martin's is that the company really takes care of you. Many of the Ratlisters enjoy this part of buying Martin's cages. The Ruud Cage that you've probably already seen was especially designed for a Ratlister named Missy Ruud. Martin's will also customize your cage if you want some changes in the one you choose to buy.

Me, I have to settle for the imitation Martin's-like cages because it's too expensive for me to buy the cages and have them shipped to Canada.

As for cleaning, they are very light for their size, and can fit in a bathtub for cleaning. LOL! some rat-keepers have been known to take their cages to a car wash for a once-a-week cleaning. The powder coating will not come off with regular washing. It's baked on at a high temperature something like ceramic.

    spazrats

';my life has gone to the Rats';Powder-coated cages?
Baked on. Wash it with a pressure sprayer if you like. Properly applied, it won't come off.
I have that same cage. :D It's wonderful. You're right, powder-coated cages are the way to go. Galvanized cages absorb urine and eventually eat away at the cage. Powder coating is the technique of applying dry paint to the cage which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The cage just looks like it has shiney paint on it and won't come off unless you keep banging it on things when moving it around to clean it and it chips off. It usually won't. Martin's cages are the way to go! :3

As far as washing, I use equal parts of vinegar and water put in a spray bottle. You can use a weaker concentrate if you want. All you do is spray it on the cage let it sit for a few minutes, scub it, then rinse.

Oh, and just to add- If you do get one I would suggest putting it together with zip ties.(It's alot easier) Just snip the extra off thats left when you zip them on.

hopefully everything makes sense, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

    Powder Coat?

Is it the best or would a rechrome job be betterPowder Coat?
its cheeper , depends on the bike what model and what part do you want to powder coatPowder Coat?
i find i like chrome more, but doing away with it is easier to keep clean... your call

the other way of considering it, powder coat is done in many more places than chroming, so your bike will be back on the road quicker with powder coat than chroming.... and that matters to me, cause it sucks when i can't ride
For real I like just a high polish it last and runs cooler

Another for real he aint coming out the regulars know you were trying to get Harley Dog out

If he were going to respond he would have done so by noe he should know just a name change will follow his profile He aint got any so LET IT GO
I think either way is good, depends on the individual. some powder coat jobs don't take to heat very well. And some companies don't chrome plate very well. Check around, if u find really cheap prices they probably aren't very good.
i prefer the chrome myself, looks better, lasts longer ,unless you live in hula-hula land, thats the way the bike was made, why f with perfection ?
i saw a simular question about this being posted by thundr (aka harley dog)he thought it might be better to do away with the chrome and powder coat, but judging from some of his posts,i wouldnt trust his judgement at all

which would you peferChrome or powder coat?
I prefer powder coat,Everybody does chrome and it all looks the same.Chrome or powder coat?
My Street Bob came with black powdercoated engine covers. I replaced them with chrome.
Chrome or powder coat that would depend on how much you like to polish the chrome , I don't really like a lot of chrome myself when it comes to cleaning my bike.
i prefer powder coat it lasts longer and is a harder compound
Depends on the ride you've got. If it's a chopper, then you need to see the chrome. If it's a rice bruner, then powder coat is sufficient. I personally have an Intruder 1400 and it's sparkling with chrome. Somehow I just don't picture this ride as being attractive with powder.
depends on what you are doing i like powder coated frames and forks not a huge chrome person but i like a little
Depends on what/where you're talking about.

I have both on my bike (see 360)

    Powder Coated or PVC Coated?

Which is better for a rat? Powder coated, or PVC coated?Powder Coated or PVC Coated?
Powdercoated. The wire hangers for my rats' water bottles are pvc coated and they sometimes knock their water bottles down and then pull the wire into their cage and chew it, the pvc stuff comes off in one big chunk, now all my water bottles hangers are naked and getting rusty and need replacing.Powder Coated or PVC Coated?
i've only ever used powder coated cages but i can't find anything bad about pvc coated cages either. i think it's more the space available to the rat and the cleanliness of the cage that's more important. i know you can't use galvanized metal, (untreated metal) as it can be toxic to rats and their urine will corrode it...
I'd recommend powder coated. PVC coated is wire that has a plastic covering on it. If the rats are chewers, they could chew this plastic off and ingest it. It may not be lethal, but it certainly won't do them any good. As malia said, galvanized wire isn't good.
I prefer powder coated, because if you get a 'chewer' who likes to chew on the bars of the cage, that pvc coating comes off rather easily. That doesn't happen with powder coated...the rat would have to chew A LOT in the same place.
pvc coated wild rats can bite through pvc but any domesticated would be like nibble nibble screw it

No you will have to remove the corroded ares and weld in plates accurately to fill the holes and use as little filler as possible.

The best bet then would be to paint rather than powder coat although i can see why you would prefer powder to paint.Powder coat filled metal?
Not really - the process is a bit too harsh to use on filled panels.

Is it better to powder coat or paint motorbike bits? like frame/wheels as I'm restoring a Suzuki GSXR 250?

I would dispute Roundthreads assertion that powder coating is a matt finish. Powder coating is a different process to plastic coating, and involves electrostatically attracting the paint powder to the item being finished and then baking in an oven. If your finishes are matt, change your powder coater. Finish should be high gloss. No comparison as far as longevity is concerned. Powder coating wins hands down.Is it better to powder coat or paint motorbike bits? like frame/wheels as I'm restoring a Suzuki GSXR 250?
powder coat as it can withstand alot more abuse than paint depending on what you,ll be using your bike for.

i found with mine when i painted as i am prone to speed and i put my bikes through alot that the paint doesn,t last that long and needed to be redone after a year now it has been powder coated and so far fingers crossed it has lasted over 2 years and no sign of needing a recoat yet.

if it is a vintage bike and will only be used every so often then paint is cheap and gives a good finish too.Is it better to powder coat or paint motorbike bits? like frame/wheels as I'm restoring a Suzuki GSXR 250?
Powder coat is good for plane finishes but you just can't get the deep look out of powder coat.

It is strong and durable but you just can't get the look out of it that you can with a quality paint.

To me powder coat looks more like a rattle can paint job.

I have to admit though the textured powder coat finishes do look good but the gloss finishes look cheap to me.
Powder coating is more expensive, but will be much more hard wearing, as it's tougher
Powder coat. It is stronger than paint.
Why bother, I used to beat those Suzuki 250s with a 250 BSA, a standard BSA 250 Barracuda, like new ones 2000 miles old run in with an old clapped BSA which blew it self to bits every 2000 miles or so but was so easy to rebuild it was back on the road within 2 days almost every time, so the thought of anyone restoring a GXR 250 is to me laughable.

Seriously though I hesitate to powder coat anything old, there is always a danger of weakening it especially alloy wheels so paint would be my preferred option, I have used epoxy enamel, a wonderful substrance to trap moisture and allow the metal to rust happily unseen.
Depends entirely on the finish you want. A high gloss finish is best achieved with a professional paint job, especially if you want to go for a metalflake or similar effect. Powder coating is the one for heavy-duty finishes, which can be matt, satin or gloss, but tends to be a flat-looking colour.
Powder coating is far more durable.
Powder coat. I had my bike resprayed by DreamMachine (uk) this year, they did not charge me a fortune and it looks absolutely stunning! Let me know if you want the details, but you can google them!
Powder coat is more durable-but also more expensive, I,de go with the paint.
powder coating for def,its more durable than paint and on top of that it looks better, especially when restoring a bike it will bring it up that little bit better
Powder coating while more expensive lasts a lot longer, cause it is difficult to chip, if you can I would powder coat.
Its gotta be powder coat for durability but bear in mind the finish is a plastic and therefore not glossy.
depends on your preferance and how deep your pockets are
Powder coat works better when there is extreme heat involved. Normal metal paint is OK where there is not a lot of heat (from the motor, exhaust, etc)
As far as frames, powder coating is the only way to go, the stuff's almost bullet proof. You can dent the metal with a hammer, and the coating won't chip off.

If you want colored wheels instead of chrome, powder coat em. My wheels are powder coated black (see my 360).

Basically, I would powder coat anything I could. HOWEVER, like chrome, it WILL add thickness to the parts, so you'll have to open hole, chase threads, etc.

I'd suggest Isopon, although it can be difficult to work with. It requires a lot of sanding to get it smooth but as far as I know it can be powder-coated. Make sure to prepare the area completely, get rid of all the loose material before you start filling, otherwise you'll just be wasting your time!Powder coat filled metal?
Why not give the powder coating Co a ring and ask?

If you want to do a really good and permanent job, why not do what we used to do years ago and use lead solder? But check first to see if there is any heat involved in powder coating, and make sure you wash off any residual bakers solution or flux.

    Powder coat over chrome??

can you powder coat over something metal thats chrome or do you have to get the chrome offPowder coat over chrome??
The surface must be clean and clear of any other finishes to powder coat.Powder coat over chrome??
Nope, ain't gonna happen. You need to have bare metal in order for a powder coat to stick. Depending on what you are about to powder coat, it may be cheaper to just get the bare part than to remove the chrome.

You can paint over chrome if you rough up the finish, but it don't last long. Ride in the rain down here in FL all the time, lot's of my parts get rusty. Including the chrome, which you would not expect. No new bike anymore. I'm buying used and putting the extra dough into paint and powder coating.

Powdercoating is applyed with a electrostatic gun and then baked on at temps generally at 375-400 degrees. Your exhaust will be exceeding those temps. The coating will burn off of the head pipe and a real good chance of it not lasting on the muffler. The best bet is ceramic coating.

Since we have a Cornell graduate who happens to be a metallurgist in town who ones a company who has a power coating business I'll drop you a few lines of warnings he said about power coating: It's important that the base metal is metallurgic-ally clean. Metals such chromolly used in street rod and sprint car frame rails is considered a clean metal. Aluminum oxide beading, acid cleaning and power coating stick well. Metals such as CRS ( cold rolled steel) tubing and HRS hot rolled steel are considered dirty metals as well as aluminum. The moral of the story is you ';can'; power coat anything. The quality and life of a great job may be very suspect if the coating is applied to ';dirty metals';. Bu dirty I don't mean clean to look at but the inevitable trash - metallurgically that's part of HRS or CRS exhaust pipe tubing.

I have started powder coating and it works really well. I want to be able to paint valve covers, but want to keep the raised letters on the valve covers unpainted because they are already polished. I want to do this with multiple valve covers and it seems very time consuming to sit and mask of letter of letter. Does anyone know of an easier way to get a good result? I took the centers out of my webspokes and had them powdercoated here in Dallas, TX. A cheapie shop did it for me for $50-60 per wheel and I did a lot of the cleaning for them before I dropped 'em off. Add another $10 per wheel if you use a metal flake as you have to have a coat of clear powder applied over the top to prevent oxidation of the metal flake. Add more if you want a special color... I ordered the powder for my guy and took it to him for application.

    Cleaning powder coated?

whats the best way to clean a rat's powder coated cage?Cleaning powder coated?
I found that cleaning powder coated can be a total pain. I generally put mine in the shower, spray it down with simple green, take a wet sponge and wipe all surfaces of it, then rinse it with super hot water, ALOT. make sure all residue is gone. Then I lay towels out in my kitchen and set the cage on it and point a fan at it for an hour or so until its dry. I do try to dry it with a towel a little bit, but I always end up snagging the towel on my cage and making little stringy bits everywhere.

Its always an event, but a clean cage means happy healthy ratties.

Edit: I changed this because apparently adding another T to the end of but makes yahoo star it out =/ but thats what its a pain in to clean. haha.Cleaning powder coated?
With my cages, if they really need a good full cleaning, I tend to just stick em in the shower with the heat all the way up. It will wash everything away, and then you can just dry it off and put it back to use. If you have something bigger than your shower/bath, then I would recommend using very hot water be careful!) on a scrap towel and wiping it down that way on all sides of the wire/platforms. If you feel a need to use chemicals, bleach works well, just make sure that you are very very careful to clean it all off.

  • Galvanized vs. powder coated. (what's the diffrence? witch is best for rat cages?)?

I'm in the process of making a Grotto style rat cage.

It says to get one inch POWDER COATED wire mesh for the door.

my problem is I can't find any of it, but i have found GALVANIZED wire mesh, and have seen that some rat cages are made from galvanized wire, not powder coated.

is it ok to go ahead and use the galvanized wire for the door?Galvanized vs. powder coated. (what's the diffrence? witch is best for rat cages?)?
Galvanization is a process in where steel (or iron) is covered in a zinc coating. It's not healthy for any animal. Just like you'll find pine and cedar sold for pet bedding when they shouldn't be - the same goes for galvanized cages and wire. Galvanizing wire is done to make the metal stronger, but it reacts poorly to animal urine and frequent washings, as well as chemicals. I highly doubt you're going to find powder coated wire in a do it yourself type store. The only option would be to buy something and take it somewhere to be powder coated - which is not going to be cost effective in your case. Your other option is to get plain hardware cloth that isn't galvanized.Galvanized vs. powder coated. (what's the diffrence? witch is best for rat cages?)?
Galvanized wire is not ok for rats. It can cause zinc poisoning if the rats chew on it, or lick their feet after touching it.

needs to protect against rust, just using it to spray some jeep accessories, oh yeah i need it in bright orangeDoes powder coat paint come in a spray can, if not does anyother spray paint wrinkle up and protect against r?
No! Powder Coating is electrolysis applied. The piece you are coating has a negative charge and the paint has a positive charge, it leaves little over spray, but must be baked after, The paint is vary hard and rust-proof.

    also the process is expensive.

Advantages and disadavantages of hot dipped galvanized, pvc dipped, and powder coated finish of iron pipe?

what are the advantages and disadavantages of hot dipped galvanized, pvc dipped, and powder coated finish of iron pipe?

what type of metal suits for outdoor use?Advantages and disadavantages of hot dipped galvanized, pvc dipped, and powder coated finish of iron pipe?
If you are looking for long-term outdoor duty then repainting regularly will be necessary. A PVC coating will be difficult to paint over, and will need stripping off. Is appearance an issue? Galvanised comes grey, so if you want a different colour you will have to buy paint and do the painting when it would be good for several years without painting. Powder coated or enamelled may give you the colour you want to start with, but may be more expensive than galvanised.

To answer your final question, aluminium is strong, light and does not corrode so can be useful for some purposes (often used for outdoor furniture), copper is soft, attractively coloured and also resistant to corrosion (often used for pipes), both are more expensive than steel if you compare the initial outlay, but if you factor in all that repainting...Advantages and disadavantages of hot dipped galvanized, pvc dipped, and powder coated finish of iron pipe?
It depends: do you want to work every some years 3 hours to do the paint job or pay more first and to look at those pipes (PVC) after some years.

I'm getting a USMC Ka-Bbar (Combat Knife) and I was wondering what a ';Epoxy-powder coated blade'; is.?

it was a usmc fighting knife. when i was a boy i had a knife like that, belonged to my dad when he was in korea. still razor sharp to this day. it has helped me do many tasks. and has claimed many lives from what i hear. but now the guys are issued a bayonet okcs I believe it is called. it is made by the ontario knife company. but dont fret i still have an old m16 bayonet, that i put on my ar-15 lmao. so the kabar is just as good as any bayonet used by the corps. epoxy is something the guys had already discussed on here. so its useless to tell you when you know now. its not a combat knife, its a fixed blade utility knife, for any to almost all purposes. hunt, fish, kill, and dig with it. its my favorite knife in the whole world. for every marine that used his kabar in combat, a kill was guaranteed every time.

enjoy your new blade. i hope you enjoy it just as much as i enjoy mine. but never dive with it because seeing it has a leather handle, the leather will detterorateI'm getting a USMC Ka-Bbar (Combat Knife) and I was wondering what a ';Epoxy-powder coated blade'; is.?
It means the blade is painted black.

Powder coat is paint, where they use static electricity to draw paint powder onto a object, then it is heated which melts the powder, turning it into paint.

They can add other chemicals like powdered epoxy, to make the paint finish harder, so it takes longer to scratch off.

Powder coat bonds to metal better than just spray painting an object.I'm getting a USMC Ka-Bbar (Combat Knife) and I was wondering what a ';Epoxy-powder coated blade'; is.?
it is a coating that covers the blade to make it rust proof and to let the blood flow freely off of the blade.it also makes it cut easier on a plunge cut without drag coming out!
It is a coating for yuppies so they can show off the knife that has never been used and it looks pretty. If you are going to use it that schit will just rub off and serve no purpose.

for the alloy wheels on my VMaxWhich is best powder coat or paint?
powder coat is more durableWhich is best powder coat or paint?
Powdercoat is plastic looking but durable. Personally I prefer paint.
    Another vote for powdercoating.

I've seen a display where they did a motorcycle gas tank in powdercoating and then they shot it with a pistol. The bullet went through the tank but the powdercoating didn't flake off. Pretty tough stuff.

Also powercoating seems to be cheaper to have done. I have a buddy redo his ATV. He priced out the various paints to do his swing arm, frame, A-arms, ect. It was a lot cheaper going with the powdercoating. Now powdercoating comes in all various colors to choose from. They have chrome like finishes, colors that change, metallic and every color under the rainbow. So that shouldn't be a issue in the decision.
Powder is more durrable but not bulletproof. I've seen it chip installing tires. I always use paint with cllearcoat. There are more color choices and you can prime and fill small imperfections in the rims making them perfect. However you should let them set a week or so before mounting tires to let it cure.
powder coat is great for wheels %26amp;frames if you dont need to match the color on the rest of the bike. powder coat has a much greater mil thickness than paint %26amp; is more flexible than most paint however the color selection is limited and will not achieve the high gloss @ depth of color of urethane basecoat-clearcoat. whatever you do dont put powdercoat on the head fins of an aircooled motor as it gets soft and begins to melt at 400 degrees.
    Powder coating.

My rims, hubs, frame and handle bars are powder coated.

    Much more durable than paint.
powder coat of course, if ya got the bucks, for me krylon rattle can is fine.
A vote for paint is that you have access to an unlimited number of colors. However, paint is easily scratched and is generally not chemically resistant. Powder coating only allows you to use the powder colors the coater has access to, but is pretty indestructible once applied.

For wheels, I'd vote for powder as well.

If you have your wheels powder coated, you *must* remove the bearings prior to blasting, coating and baking. If you don't, the bearings will be toast in only a few thousand miles afterwards. The abrasives will go into the bearings, and the heat will ruin the internal lubrication.

I want to make my own gerbil cage, does it matter if i use PVC coated wire? - I cant find any powder coated?

It's all basically the same thing. I'm pretty sure that as long as the wire is coated, it should be fine. Powder coating is basically plastic anyway, which is what PVC is.

I commend you for wanting to make a cage for your gerbil. I made a cage for my rats when I first got them. I can tell you that I wish I had just bought a regular cage. The idea of making your own is nice because you can make the cage how you want it, but they are never as nice as a real cage and people almost always end up buying one.

Also, I do not know if you are aware of this, but do not use wood for your cage. Wood can absorb urine and it will eventually start to smell. I don't know much about gerbils, but if you need to use wood at all, use 'melamite board.' At least I think that's what it's called. I'm sure you know what it is, the wood with the white coating that a lot of cabinets and shelves are made out of? The coating does not absorb the urine, but it can be pretty expensive.

Good Luck!I want to make my own gerbil cage, does it matter if i use PVC coated wire? - I cant find any powder coated?
I remember hearing once of a company that you could send the cage to for coating. However, building your own cage is probably going to be more expensive and time consuming that just buying one.

You could get closet shelving, for example http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/S鈥?/a> . I don't know if these are coated, but some of the shelves sold are.

Powder coated epoxy paint reaction with mud?

i am an electrical engineer in Samsung , we are using cable trays that are epoxy powder coated , i need to know if these cable trays are splashed upon with drilling mud( contains seawater barite , bentonite for details please search on internet) , then will the powder coated epoxy paint be affected or not ?

Secondly is epoxy powder coated paint UV rays proof or not ,,,,please send material in any form

if possible write down some chemical reactions

nishchal.attri@gmail.comPowder coated epoxy paint reaction with mud?
There is no reason I can think of that anything in drilling mud would affect the epoxy. Bentonite is an associative thickener which is also used in the manufacture of paint including waterborne and since cans that contain waterborne paint are lined with epoxy, I know for a fact that bentonite won't cause a problem. As long as the epoxy is properly applied and thoroughly cross linked at the time the they come in contact with the drilling mud it should be ok.

One problem with epoxy is its UV stability. Epoxies are very photoreactive and are ok for use indoors or otherwise protected from sunlight but will yellow and photodegrade within a relatively short period of time if exposed to sunlight. The effects of photodegradation on an epoxy might be controllable with an antioxidant such as a hindered amine light stabilizer such as CIBA TINUVIN 292 but personally I have only ever tested such additives in alkyds and polyurethanes and it still probably won't be very good. My recommendation is an epoxy base coat and a good alaphatic urethane topcoat if you desire UV stability. Don't use an alkyd for a topcoat as alkyds readily hydrolyze and that's bad if water based drilling mud is used.

    Galvanized vs powder coated cages?

You definitely want powder coated. When the galvanized steel get soaked with urine, it gives off an awful stench. I've bought plenty of martin's cages and they are truly great cages but you really want the coating.

Also, not very healthy for rats to be chewing on zinc. ;)Galvanized vs powder coated cages?
not sure about powder coated but 'galvanized' is a coatting of zinc over steel, some zincs have high lead content mixed into them...and rodents love to chew. powder coated sounds like an enamel, i would research what the 'powder' coated really is. good luck
Go with the powder coated. It'll last longer and just looks better. lol

    Powder coated is better.

    What are powder coated rims?

do they last longer than painted? price difference? What are powder coated rims?
Powder coating is just another way of painting rims. The rim is electostatically charged and the positively charged powdered paint is applied. This assures that the paint gets applied even to hidden areas uniformly. Then the rim is put into an 'oven' and the paint bakes to the metal. The resulting finish is very smooth and durable.

The cost is a bit more expensive that regular paint but it lasts longer because the paint is harder and adheres to the metal much better. What are powder coated rims?
Powder coating is a process whereby coloring is electrically plated onto the rims. It generally generates a harder and tougher to scratch surface. It's much more expensive than simply painting.

Wrong answer from the person above me.

The powder coat does not have the problems of flaking as the coating is applied in thin layers.

Yes it most certaintly can be powder coated.

I have given you sites and links on explanations and information relating to this question. You can find them below.

Powder coating can also be applied to glass, ceramics, temperature resistant plastics and even wood.

It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as ';white goods';, aluminium extrusions, and automobile and motorcycle parts. Newer technologies allow other materials, such as MDF (medium-density fibreboard), to be powder coated using different methods.

In ceramics, the refractory industry as well as the brick and building material industry glass powder is applied as sintering additive (study), filler material or optical component.

    This next site coats glass.

Fluorescent/Pearl-like.Powder coated finishes can now offer an icy or fluorescent appearance or the lustrous look of a pearl that may appear to change color depending on the angle of observation. Some glass products benefit from this look.

Dye Sublimation. The process of transferring three-dimensional images onto parts and products, known as dye sublimation, has been successfully applied to powder coated products. Now high-resolution images, designs, and wood-grain looks can be transferred to a variety of powder coated products made of steel, aluminum, glass, and medium density fiberboard. Some products benefiting from this vibrant new look.

No, I don't think so. Powder coating holds the powder in place with a static charge on metal and glass won't do the charge uniformly which is the great feature of powder coating.

The powder coat may be so heavy that you will have flaking problems with the low COE of boro compared to the higher of metals.
Yea, i think i heard something about that, i think you have to put the powder on when the glass is still warm otherwise the powder won't stick. dont know much else. go to www.glass.com for more info.
Yes it can be, but why powder coat? There are many other options for getting colors into glass, some more vivid and less costly, some less vivid more costly? Do a simple search for the following: ';Glass Laser jet printing';, ';glass opaci-coat';, ';glass ceramic frit';, ';glass silk screening';.

  • Good paint striper for striping powder coat?

i need a good striper to strip my frame witch is powder coated. thanksGood paint striper for striping powder coat?
i've yet to hear of any strippers designed for powder coat (except sandblasting-which can be pricey) if your intention is to change the color a good oil based primer is all you'll need to give a good base for painting i've used this method with good resultsGood paint striper for striping powder coat?
Your best bet for stripping powder coating from metal is sandblasting. It will take you right back down to the original metal surface and is very fast, and inexpensive. Look up sandblasting in the yellow pages or talk to a pro painter to find someone in your area.

most powder coaters will want to material (bead) blast the wheels first, which will remove the chrome, and get the powder something to stick too.

If you're going to powder coat the chrome finish is of no value anyway as the powder coating will provide a tougher finish.I have an 04 dodge ram hemi, powder-coat OEM 20'; wheels?
if you,ll sand blast those the finish will last a lot longer ,it gives the powder coating and the primer a really good surface to take to,i did one set for my car,and they came out real good, its been two years on them and they still look nice, good luck.
Remove the crome first. It will look better and last longer.

Cost depends on a number of variables. You don't say what the materials are. All aluminum? Do you need it blasted first? Flat black works very well. I wouldn't spend over $200 for what you want, at the outside. I've had one done here (frame only) for under $100, including blasting.

Most powder coaters in my area (Atlanta) run batches and will give you a price break when they are running, for example, a lot of flat black. If you're not waiting for a deal like this then expect a 2 to 4 day turnaround.

    Powder coat a bicycle frame?

How expensive is it to powder coat an old bike frame? Im going to restore my old beach cruiser and give to my wife as a gift... im curious if I should do a nice spray paint job or have it powder coated. any tips? Thanks!Powder coat a bicycle frame?
I think power coat is very durable and actually great idea. I did the same thing with my bicycle many years ago. The cost was under $80 at that time.Powder coat a bicycle frame?
I do powder coating. There are so many cool colors now. I did the aero bars and bottle cages in chrome then blue over that and they look like blue chrome. Very cool. Hard to say how much it would cost you. Look in the yellow pages in your town and call up a shop, I'm sure they will tell you.
My LBS (local bike shop) powdercoated my 18 year old GT Outpost trail. It looks wonderful. First they take the bike entirely apart, the painter strips the paint, sand down any dents and dings. In some cases they have to build up deep dents. My frame though had no dents, no crashes, just some scratches.

Rust is the enemy of your steel frame so powdercoat is a way to protect your investment.

I chose plain paint, no logos, but might get a custom decal added with my name.

    Then they re-build the bike.

Painting cost $150, the re-build well it was time for a tune up and true the wheels anyway so it's part of that.

The results are beautiful, a one of a kind bike.
If you want some great guys, look at:

    http://www.spectrumpowderworks.com/

I don't think they're cheap, but I've heard good things about them.
I like the look of a good paint job more than powdercoat. You can sometimes get your bike done free or very cheaply at auto refinishing shops. It's easier for them to apply paint than dispose of it properly, so they'll often use up a pot for cheap.

If you go the powdercoating route, and if you have an aluminum frame, BE SURE that you take it to a place that knows aluminum, preferably an aircraft shop. The tempering of aluminum is very precise and there are all kinds of horror stories about frames that buckled when the riders rode them after the powdercoating process. If you have a steel frame, you don't have anything to worry about. There are some powdercoaters that won't do bike frames because of this, so check them out and be sure they can do it properly.

The only other thing (with either method) is that you want to make sure they protect the threaded areas. Rubber stoppers in the bottom bracket shell, screws and bolts in the other places. If they don't do this, you'll probably need to take the frame into a bike shop that has the proper cutting and facing tools afterwards.

Can chrome wheels be powder coated?

i have chrome wheels one is damaged, i'm getting it repaired, but the price to rechrome the wheel is to high i'm looking for a cheaper alternative. i cant find a replacement wheel they are out of production. Can chrome wheels be powder coated?
hey, ya I actually do sand/media blast, powdercoating, and polishing myself. The problem with chrome plating is usually removing it. You CAN paint over it as long as it still goes through the proper prepping stages like any part that is powder coated needs to go through. Although you can have it removed it might be cheaper to just blast/clean and powedercoat. Im not looking at the rim and dont know how bad it is, if it is just some flaking this is a good way to go and it'll last for years as long as its still blasted and sanded to remove any of the lose pieces of the chrome plating. Im not sure what color you wanted to get the powder coat in, if your still going for a chrome look powdercoating always falls short no matter what people say. And if it does look good then its not going to last long, they do not make a incredible looking chrome powdercoat paint that can take UV rays very well, so they need a clear coat and the clear coat takes most of the good looks away leaving a semi chrome/silver look. Just make sure you take it to someone that does good powdercoating, the quality is all in the prepping process really. If the part isnt prepped properly it might not last long, orange peel, pock marks, ect.....well good luck, I hope this helps some, if you have any other questions i could probably help some more, just give me an email at shawnhale04@yahoo.com, peaceCan chrome wheels be powder coated?

Okay when people say somthing like nerf bars or roof racks is powder coated what doese that mean.....?

Is all powder coat black? and how do you tell the diff. between a powder coat and reg. black paint?Okay when people say somthing like nerf bars or roof racks is powder coated what doese that mean.....?
Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers.

The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish. Powder coating is the fastest-growing finishing technology in North America, representing over 10% of all industrial finishing applications.Okay when people say somthing like nerf bars or roof racks is powder coated what doese that mean.....?
powdercoating is alot thicker and stronger and last longer than paint, its sprayed on as a powder rather than liquid and then baked. most of the time things like nerf bars and roof racks are all powdercoated.
Powder coating is literally that ... the object to be coated is given an electrostatic charge and a pigment in very fine powder is sprayed on. Then the whole mess is baked in a kiln or oven to melt the powder into an even coat.

Paint is sprayed or brushed on and will have uneven thickness and strength. Powder coating is a continuous even coating of a given color and is very strong.
Powder coating is a dry finishing process, using finely ground particles of pigment and resin which are electrostatically charged and sprayed onto a part to be coated. The parts to be coated are electrostatically grounded so that the charged powder particles projected at them adhere to the parts and are held there until melt and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality finish

Jethot coatings is the most known company which will do this. You usually have to send them your header/pipes as they need to strip and prep the item before doing the coating. I have heard of other companies doing similar 'ceramic' coatings which looks similar.

The whole point of this is to increase the capability of the item to transfer heat (run cooler). It actually has been proven to work and I believe costs around $200 for a typical header.Who does a coating on motorcycle exhaust pipes, looks like silver powder and never turn blue. SanMateo area.?

Powder coat finish...if i spray a utility trailer do i have to somehow bake the finish like ive heard ?

yeah ive got a motorcycle trailer project goin' and am in need of advice on powder coating. id like to buy the harbor frieght model $50. But in doin' alittle reading on how to powder coat its still a little fuzzy.. some say to bake to 400 deg. to cure ? i plan on sandblasting the trailer, after that...could anyone briefly describe what they would do so i dont %$#@ up. thanks, d.MilesPowder coat finish...if i spray a utility trailer do i have to somehow bake the finish like ive heard ?
It depends on the powercoating you use. If you use East-woods Hot-Coat power-coating, it has to be cured with infrared heat lamps. You can purchase heat lamps to bake the finish on things that are larger to fit in the ovens they also sell.

I had a friend in Colorado use the eastwood products and setup to powercoat headers and other parts for his car. Never seen someone use hot-coat on an entire vehicle, though. He was very happy with it. I personally couldnt afford to spend that kind of cash on something I wouldnt use every day.

Now, as for the harbour freight one, I dont know, you'll need to look thru the instructions, and look thru the directions for whatever powercoating you buy as to what you need to do to cure it.

http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemT鈥?/a>Powder coat finish...if i spray a utility trailer do i have to somehow bake the finish like ive heard ?
Powder coating needs to be baked at anywhere from 375 degrees to 425 degrees for anywhere from 15 minutes to 35 minutes depending on what kind of powder you are using and what you are coating. A motorcycle trailer is a mighty big item to fit in a oven. Commercial powder coaters would have an oven large enough but it would have to be stripped of all paint, tires, lights, wheel bearings and whatever else could not withstand 400 degrees of heat. Best if you just mask it off and spray paint it.

    Wes
Line-X looks much better %26amp; is also protective.
No. Powder coating uses an electrical charge to 'adhere' the paint dust to the prepped surfaces. In order to powdercoat a trailer frame you will need a huge booth and very strong electrodes -- THEN you have to bake it so the surface of the 'paint' flows. You can probably find a commercial powdercoating firm that will do the job for you or you can rent a HVLP (high volume low pressure) spray gun and compressor for a weekend and apply a 'conventional' urethane paint finish that will last WAY longer than your trailer will.

    Can you powder coat plastic?

your best bet is going to be a high quality spray plastic will melt are burn up in a oven and it will not take a electric charge for electron plating
Just use a satin black paint that works on plastic.
they will probably melt 350F to 450F to cure.

Can i powder coat on the job?

if you have a curing oven that will maintain a temperature of 360 degreesCan i powder coat on the job?
Harbor Freight has a powder coat gun. But you can also do a search on google. My cousin has done it he has an extra electric oven and after you powdercoat the object it has to be baked at 350 for around 1/2 hour. Make sure it's not plastic or has any parts that will melt. But yes you can do it yourself. The only draw back is you can only do something as big as the oven you have. He's talked about welding 2 electric ovens together and then he'll have enough room to do rear axles. I think the bigger the object the longer you may have to bake it.

I have some graphite powder. I want to brush it onto some small plastic items to make a conductive coating?

What is the best liquid to buy to mix with the graphite powder before brush application to my plastic figuresI have some graphite powder. I want to brush it onto some small plastic items to make a conductive coating?
In my experience the only adhesive one can use for polythene/nylon types of plastic is a contact adhesive (eg. Evostick), this can be thinned with cellulose thinners to apply a thinner coating as the glue is very glutinous in its supplied form.

This mix can be used on other plastics, including thermoplastics, but with caution, the solvent in the glue reacts with the plastic and can destroy the moulding if the section is thin, diluting the glue with thinners accelerates the drying process and should prevent the long drying times of the raw glue, thus reducing the invasive action.

Applying a coat of the graphite to the semi dried coating by dusting with a soft brush with a gentle stippling action should do the trick, leave any excess powder in place until fully dried, gentle warmth will help, when dry, rub the surface powder gently to consolidate the coating, this should also improve the electrical continuity.

These are guidelines, and experiments should be used to refine the process and to gain experience. As you have not described the uses you wish to apply this process to, it is difficult to be specific.

WARNING - This adhesive and the thinning medium are HIGHLY FLAMMABLE, do not smoke, no naked flame, good ventilation is necessary, Inhalation of the fumes are the equivalent of glue sniffing, so please, use with caution.I have some graphite powder. I want to brush it onto some small plastic items to make a conductive coating?
upva glue, or depending on aplication, you could use araldite.

and dont forget to key the suface or itll just peel away.
If you mix the graphite powder with some type of glue or liquid, you will in turn coat the individual graphite particles and insulate them. I know there are electrically conductive adhesives, or you could also use industrial silver paint, but it is expensive
I suggest you don't mix it with anything. Instead apply a thin film of glue to the figure then sprinkle the graphite on top.

How can I Powder Coat paint Plastic?

...i need to powder coat plastic...can I coat it and then cure it quickly at low temp.?How can I Powder Coat paint Plastic?
    You can't for two reasons.

The first step in powder coating is to apply a positive electrical charge to what you're painting and spray on negatively charged paint powder. Since you can't electrically charge plastic, you can't apply the powder.

The next step is to bake the item, which melts the paint powder and fuses it onto the item. And, the temperature required for melting the paint powder would melt the plastic. How can I Powder Coat paint Plastic?
I powder coat plastic all the time. I use a conductive metallic based paint and a low temp powder. I also keep an close eye on the baking process. Half of my motorcycle is powder coated plastic. good luck Report Abuse

I was looking into this exact question a while back. I was trying to find an inexpensive way to make a casting look like it was bronzed. Eventually, I came across conductive ceramic, but at the same time bronzing became affordable.

I think you might search first for conductive plastics. The first site shows that plastics can be very conductive to a static charge. Some of the metallic coatings you can get on plastic may also work.

The second site is an example of the low temp powder coating materials. The temp is listed at 250 deg.
I'm not sure you can, I think you need to run an electrical charge through the piece to make the paint adhere and most plastic doesn't conduct electricity well enough to do it.
If you heat it enough to melt the powder-coat, no doubt it would melt the plastic.
    you cant powder coat plastic

Can you powder coat a shot gun?

my mossberg 500 12 ga is a great shooting gun. i use it for duck / dove hunting. it is a used gun it has some light to one moderate scratch. i tried bluing it but the blue rubs of. i need to now if i can powder coat it. if i can what do you recommendCan you powder coat a shot gun?
Powder coating is probably not something you could do. I don't believe it has to be heated high enough to affect the metal. You could have a gunsmith re-blue it. There is a product called Dura-coat, I believe, that is similar to a paint that can be applied to guns. I seem to remember that it has to be heated to 150 F or so in an oven to cure it. I have never used it but a lot of people swear by it. You should be able to find it at midway. Can you powder coat a shot gun?
Powder coating something like that would be kind of hard...

You would have to heat the barrel/receiver up to a point where you would start affecting the temper/heat treat of the barrel, possibly leading to a rather dangerous situation. Even the aluminum receiver might not respond well to heat (warping will spell the end of it).

Just have it re-blued... so much more simple.
I don't know 100% here, this is what I think. Powder coat is a very hard substance muck like ceramic. I have seen it chip off when applied to metal that is subject to vibration. The other thing is that it is baked on at high temperature. I think the high heat may take the temper out of the barrel or possibly warp it. Those would just be my concerns.
Why ruin the value of such a great gun. take it to a gun smith and have it re blued. To have it powder coated would cost about the same.
I recommend Duracoat. This stuff is anti rust, more durable than parkerizing, and you can get any color. The mossberg 500 is cheap, not even worth the duracoat or even rebluing.
The nearest thing to powder coat in a gun finish is Parkerizing. This can be done by a gunsmith, also.

I was calling around a few shops and one business said the calipers are porous and the fluid would drain out in the process, is this true? Can I have my old brake calipers powder coated???
yes you can get them powder coated, IF the calipers were 'porous' they wouldn't be much good as brake parts, they'd leak brake fluid and be bad to drive with.

I would suspect that you would have to be able to totally disassemble the calipers, removing the piston and seals, that way the powder coat process wouldn't mess up those parts of the caliper. you probably would have to do a good job of pre-cleaning the old units before you take them to the powder coat place, Ask around a few motorcycle shops about who they suggest to do the workCan I have my old brake calipers powder coated???
if brake calipers were porous how the hell would they withstand internally the huge hydraulic pressures generated when you push the pedal. I can understand if they mean remove the rubber seals and pistons first then bring the caliper in for powder coating. Have you thought about simply rubbing them down and painting them yourself. Dead easy and look great through a pair of quality alloys. Hope this helps.
You can have anything powder coated if it is done properly. True a porous caliper will not hold a coat well but that can be prevented by resufacing the caliper.

Honestly man a high-temp. paint will work just as well. My calipers are as fresh as the day i painted them 2 years ago.

    Hope i helped. Peace
how are we supposed to know...we don't know what kind of brakes you have, car you have or what the heck you wanna coat something for, when you can buy new, for less money...
Powder coating is similar to painting. WTF? Maybe you are thinking about something else?

    hi there

i have powder coated at home with kits from different places, mostly car parts and some conibear traps, and the hardest thing about it ,is protecting the holes from filling up with the coating, and if they do then you have to drill them out to size again, of course if you are going to take the parts to professionals then they will know this , why don't you run down there and talk to them , they will let you know what has to be done or if they will take a chance and try it for you.
