What can you do to protect powder-coated steel patio furniture from rusting?

We bought patio furniture a while back, and it's made of all aluminum, which is great bc after several years, there's not a spot of rust. We love it. We got the gazebo that went w/it, but it was bamboo, and after several rainy/humid summers, it disintegrated.

Now, we found another gazebo that matches our chairs, but it's made from ';powder-coated rust-resistant steel.'; We know this stuff will likely still rust, even though it's ';resistant'; to it, because we've seen it happen w/neighbor's/family's stuff etc.

Is there anything you can do to it to prevent it from rusting? We hate to spend the $ on something that's going to rust out in 2-3 years.

Any opinions of that Rustoleum stuff? My inlaws used it but their patio furniture still rusted apart. I don't know what to do. Is there some kind of oil protectant or something to rub on it periodically? Any experience with powder-coated steel patio furniture?

Any ideas would be great, thanks! What can you do to protect powder-coated steel patio furniture from rusting?
apply RustSeal a non porous rust preventive coating, a popular product used by auto restorers but stops rust anywhere. What can you do to protect powder-coated steel patio furniture from rusting?
i don't know if this will help, but if you can get hold of Plastikote clear spray,it will put a durable long lasting layer of colourless plastic over the aluminium.this should in theory preserve the metal for longer.if you can get hold of it,ask the shop staff first if it's suitable although I'm pretty sure it is.

Should I powder coat my 09 tt's wheels? (Pics included)?

I just got a new 2009 Brilliant Red Audi TT. I want to powder coat my wheels black, or maybe even flat black, but I need some opinions... Do you think black wheels/rims look good on red vehicles???

Heres some pics of my car.

First off, Brilliant red is an awesome color!..

My color is Ocean Blue Pearl Effect..

*,..,*

There are many different color combinations that look good, with red + black being one of them...

What I say is that you research all of your body styling and wheel mods before you commit to doing anything with your factory wheels. I am into the A4/B7 and specifically bought last year because it was the end of production for that particular model. My friends and I have tricked out our rides with various choices, with mine being Stasis engine mods and an Oettinger body kit.

I ordered my ride straight from the factory and when it came time addressing my wheels, I decided not to touch my factory wheels. Right now the are hanging in my garage just for show.

Overall, all of your ideas sound pretty good, I am sure all of them will look hot! On the brake caliper though, buy ones that are color red already, don't paint the ones you have. Trust me, it will be better.

Good luck!Should I powder coat my 09 tt's wheels? (Pics included)?
you are so lucky to get a car like that as a gift it looks like ( given from the ribbon).

yes what would look very nice would be to paint your rims black or powder coat them black and then you should paint your brake calipers red then it would look frekin awsome.
black rims would look fantastic with the red car, my husband had a red GSR and he got his rims done black, it was beautiful. so go for it. and ya the brake caliper idea is nice too. get a good contrast going. =] good luck!!
Yeah. my dads friend has powder coated blacks on his s4 they end up looking awesome!! You should definitly do it.
Nice ride, congrats. Yea black wheels would really compliment the brilliant red.
Nice ride, and yeah, the blacks would look good. Good luck.
Black everything out. Do the wheels, tint the tail lights, and black out the crome trim, it looks pretty sick. Red emblems on the wheels would be a nice detail, not really pro pinstripe. If you end up wanting to do you calipers they do make a brake paint that you can do yourself. I would suggest doing it soon, if there is any rust on the caliper the paint will eventually peel. They also make stickers for the calipers, you can get them pretty cheap, some say audi while others are just rings.

And most importantly get some clear cornered headlights, cars looks so much better without that orange blinker.

  • Duplicolor Paint or Powder coat?

Whats the main difference between these two? i want my stock rims black but i cant really afford to powder coat my rims. it seems like duplicolor paint is a great alternative. i plan on sanding off the current finish on the rims, applying primer, three coats of black satin duplicolor paint, and adding a clear coat to finish it all off. This seems like it would be pretty durable. Would it really last? Would it be a cheaper alternative to powder coating that actually works? I just want to make sure because a mistake could be very costly.Duplicolor Paint or Powder coat?
dont clear coat/the paint wont last/you will be painting a lot

Removing clear coat from powder coated bike?

i have a bicycle frame that i had powder coated, then after that i sprayed some rattle can clear coat on top of it. It's been some time now and the clear coat doesn't seem like it was such a good idea anymore.

I'm curious how i can remove the clear coat without hurting the paint that's underneath it. I have some Jasco paint thinner handy and i was thinking of putting it on ASSUMING the paint thinner will not be strong enough to mess up the powder coating (and applying only for a short time) and will remove the clear coat.

Is this a good idea or are there better ways out there?Removing clear coat from powder coated bike?
Good idea. Slowly and gently. Check clear coat can for info on solvant to clean up overspray.Removing clear coat from powder coated bike?

    Powder-coated cages?

I'm looking in to buying a cage from Martins'. I was planning on getting The Rat Skyscraper (R-695) in powder coated. The cages are available in either galvanized or powder coated, but I have read that galvanized isn't a wise choice. I'm not sure about the whole ordeal with the powder coated, though. Is the cage dipped in powder? Will the powder come off on your hands/when you wash the cage? Or is the powder hardened and then glossed over, ensuring that you can wash it with soap and water?

I was just a little confused on how you would go about washing this cage, if the powder is loose or not.

    http://www.martinscages.com/products/cag鈥?/a>

    Thanks in advance!Powder-coated cages?
I have both powder-coated and galvanized cages. The powder coated cages are the safer of the two types because bare galvanized wire contains zinc and if you have rats that chew the bars of their cage they're getting a zinc overdose which can cause health problems.

Galvanized floors end up stained with a white, funky-smelling, residue, which won't come off. This residue builds up in the corners of the cage where the rats choose to pee and poop. This problem is easily resolved with the use of a litter box and litter training for the rats.

Powder coated cages are beautiful to look at, clean-looking, perfect, cages that don't pose any of the problems that galvanized cages do. BUT, if you have rats that chew the bars, they will eventually chew the powder coating off and it's very expensive to get the cage repaired..

The neat thing about Martin's is that the company really takes care of you. Many of the Ratlisters enjoy this part of buying Martin's cages. The Ruud Cage that you've probably already seen was especially designed for a Ratlister named Missy Ruud. Martin's will also customize your cage if you want some changes in the one you choose to buy.

Me, I have to settle for the imitation Martin's-like cages because it's too expensive for me to buy the cages and have them shipped to Canada.

As for cleaning, they are very light for their size, and can fit in a bathtub for cleaning. LOL! some rat-keepers have been known to take their cages to a car wash for a once-a-week cleaning. The powder coating will not come off with regular washing. It's baked on at a high temperature something like ceramic.

    spazrats

';my life has gone to the Rats';Powder-coated cages?
Baked on. Wash it with a pressure sprayer if you like. Properly applied, it won't come off.
I have that same cage. :D It's wonderful. You're right, powder-coated cages are the way to go. Galvanized cages absorb urine and eventually eat away at the cage. Powder coating is the technique of applying dry paint to the cage which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The cage just looks like it has shiney paint on it and won't come off unless you keep banging it on things when moving it around to clean it and it chips off. It usually won't. Martin's cages are the way to go! :3

As far as washing, I use equal parts of vinegar and water put in a spray bottle. You can use a weaker concentrate if you want. All you do is spray it on the cage let it sit for a few minutes, scub it, then rinse.

Oh, and just to add- If you do get one I would suggest putting it together with zip ties.(It's alot easier) Just snip the extra off thats left when you zip them on.

hopefully everything makes sense, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
